April 19 – Sunday Service

Welcome Bay Park to our Online Service— We are so glad you’re here!

Bay Park, it was so good to celebrate together the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus last weekend. The resurrection of Jesus is why we continue to gather for worship and why we can have hope. Our first choice would always be to fellowship together. However, unity is not found by proximity but by pursuit. So together let’s intentionally go deeper in the knowledge of God’s Word, in our journey as disciples of Jesus, and in our actions as we live out our faith.

Opening Prayer

Praise: Thank God for Easter and that last weekend we got to remember and celebrate the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. Praise God that the hope of the resurrection still applies today.

Personal Response: Take a minute to ask God to speak to you throughout the music, prayer and scripture.

Prayer for Others: Take some time and ask God to impress on your heart someone to pray for. It’s okay to wait a while here. As God reveals a name or names to you, please pray for them. Here are a couple suggestions:
Peace for the anxious. John 16:33
Rest for the overwhelmed. Psalm 62:1
Faith for the doubting or unbelieving. Ephesians 6:16
Boldness for Christians to proclaim the glory of God. Philippians 2:15

Scripture Reading:

Philippians 2:12-18 NIV

12 Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling,

13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.

14 Do everything without grumbling or arguing,

15 so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky

16 as you hold firmly to the word of life. And then I will be able to boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor in vain.

17 But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service coming from your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you.

18 So you too should be glad and rejoice with me.

Philippians 2:12-18 ESV

12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.

14 Do all things without grumbling or disputing,

15 that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world,

16 holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain.

17 Even if I am to be poured out as a drink offering upon the sacrificial offering of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with you all.

18 Likewise you also should be glad and rejoice with me.

Further Reflection, Journalling, and Prayer

1.Ask a non-Christian in your life what they think your God is like. Is this connected in any way to the way you live your life? You might ask them this, or simply think about it.

2. Go stargazing and reflect on how the night sky proclaims the glory of God. Pray, asking God to help you “shine like a star.” You might bring your roommate(s) or family and pray together. Ensure it’s a clear night before you go!

3.Why do you think Christianity in North American is often (or at least perceived as being) so militant? Where is the support for this in Scripture? How might you respond to this when you hear someone trying to defend militant Christianity?

4.Are you feeling guilty or convicted by this message? It’s good not to ignore or repress this. Take some time to write a journal entry of confession to God. Then, Google Bible verses about forgiveness. Read some of them and pray a prayer of thanksgiving for God’s forgiveness. Remember: God loves you as his child. Unconditionally!

5.Take some time to listen to this Needtobreathe song and the way the lyrics connect to this Sunday’s message: Wasteland
