- Covid-19 Update
I grew up in a Christian home, the last of six kids. My parents were missionary church planters who taught and modelled the love and grace of Jesus to me. As a young teen I embraced Jesus as my Saviour. The idea of one day being a pastor didn’t even make it on my list of future possibilities. God however knew otherwise. I went to Ottawa U where I completed a bachelors in business administration. Better yet, that’s where I met Loralyn and that’s also where God birthed a passion for equipping believers and for sharing Christ with my neighbours. Loralyn and I were married in 1988, the same year we moved to Dallas Texas for theological studies. We have two kids, Zac and Hana. We’ve served in several churches. I’m excited by the vision God has brought to life at Bay Park: Boldly engaging our community and our communities. Together we want to make a positive spiritual and eternal impact on lives of those who live around the church and around our homes. It’s wonderful seeing God’s people rising to the call, we’d love to have you as part of this great journey too!
Favourite verse: May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him – Romans 15:13
My role at Bay Park is to oversee our Jr. High, Sr. High, and College Ministries. This means equipping and empowering gifted volunteer leaders from our congregation. This also involves laughing, talking, praying, and learning from our church’s next generation. I love partnering with Geneva House, a Queen’s University campus ministry, to create a missional presence on Kingston campuses. I also get to work closely with an inter-church network of youth groups.
I’m from the distant land of Musquodoboit. Which is actually just a hard-to-pronounce village in Nova Scotia.
I landed in Kingston July of 2014 with all my belongings packed into three suitcases. At first I joined the Bay Park family as a youth ministry intern and in May 2016 transitioned into being Pastor of Student Ministries.
Prior to Bay Park I have worked as Program Director, counsellor, and barf-cleaner extraordinaire at summer camps in Nova Scotia and Bermuda; as a one year pastoral intern in the Tex-Mex border city coincidentally named “Pharr”; and, as an amateur preacher in small-town churches in the Maritimes. At a small Bible college in New Brunswick I completed by Bachelor of Theology and have recently “mastered the divine” with a Master of Divinity from Tyndale Seminary, Toronto.
For fun I enjoy preaching, reading, writing, running and working out, and SciFi.
I grew up in a very small town, north of Muskoka, where the moose walked though our garden, the bears sat on the back step, and the wolves yipped as they passed by.
Growing up in the north, I loved being outside: skating on the lake, driving heavy equipment, waterskiing, and long snowmobile trips through the bush.
At a young age, and with child like faith, I accepted Jesus as my Saviour, and have been growing in that decision ever since. While in elementary school, I was baptized in a local lake. After high school, I went to Word of Life, a Bible School in upstate New York. For two years there I studied God’s word, while also being involved in large scale, professional music theatre productions. This was a period of inward spiritual growth, and outward application.
After my time at Word of Life, I came back to Canada and completed a Bachelor of Music (2015) and Bachelor of Education (2016), both at Queen’s University.
I am so thankful for the opportunity to use my passions and education to serve at Bay Park.
Favourite verse: Psalm 16:11
You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
I grew up in the province of Quebec where the church was the centre of our family life. I received my new identity in Christ at the age of eleven, and after my first year of university in Ottawa, I was baptized.
I trained to be a teacher and had a rewarding career, mainly in the area of special education. My childhood sweetheart, Willa, and I have four wonderful children, and we are blessed to have eleven precious grandchildren.
The church has always been a very important part of my life, and Bay Park provided me with many opportunities for spiritual growth. In my thirties and forties, I served in children and youth ministries and also received valuable church leadership experience by serving as an elder for many years. During this time the Holy Spirit put in my heart to begin studying for full-time Christian ministry. Shortly after retiring from teaching I received my M.Div. degree. I planned to pastor in Ontario but God called me to be senior pastor at a church on Vancouver Island where I was ordained for the gospel ministry. After five great years in beautiful British Columbia, we then moved back east just outside Montreal to pastor a church closer to my roots and family. I completed my Doctorate of Ministry in Spiritual Formation while being the senior pastor at this vibrant church with many young families. After seven years there, we moved back to Kingston with a two year stop over in Brockville where I stepped into an interim senior pastor role.
I have come full circle and am happy to be back at Bay Park to be used by God to help others grow in their relationship with Jesus.
I am a Habs fan, love Scrabble, collect Canadian antique tins, and I enjoy a competitive game of squash. Drop by my office and I will serve you a hot cup of black coffee.
My role at Bay Park is to create an environment in our church where children can hear the gospel message and come to know and love Christ. I do this through running our Sunday morning program, mid-week program and summer Vacation Bible School. During these programs I try to pass on my excitement and passion for telling children about the gospel and how much Jesus loves them.
I truly enjoy connecting on a heart level with children and making them feel heard and valued. Building a relationship on a foundation of happiness and genuine care will resonate fond memories of attending church as they develop a relationship with God.
After growing up in the Annapolis Valley in Nova Scotia I came to Ontario with my husband Bill in 2011. We began our own family in 2013, then after landing in Kingston in 2016 and now with four children of our own I have very clearly felt the call to Children’s Ministry and service to Bay Park specifically.
It is my joy to tend to all of our volunteer team and to communicate, collaborate and implement all the plans to help the children of Bay Park thrive with a love for Jesus. All with the greater mission and vision of Boldly engaging our community and communities. I have come into this job equipped as a Mother; along with my Office Administration Diploma. I am currently obtaining my Children’s Ministry Certificate through Vanguard College out of Edmonton with a further goal of gaining my Bachelor of Religious Education.
My favourite verse I love to share and that reminds me so much of the basic truth of the gospel is Psalm 18:2— “The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”
