I grew up in a Christian home, the last of six kids. My parents were missionary church planters who taught and modelled the love and grace of Jesus to me. As a young teen I embraced Jesus as my Saviour. The idea of one day being a pastor didn’t even make it on my list of future possibilities. God however knew otherwise. I went to Ottawa U where I completed a bachelors in business administration. Better yet, that’s where I met Loralyn and that’s also where God birthed a passion for equipping believers and for sharing Christ with my neighbours. Loralyn and I were married in 1988, the same year we moved to Dallas Texas for theological studies. We have two kids, Zac and Hana. We’ve served in several churches. I’m excited by the vision God has brought to life at Bay Park: Boldly engaging our community and our communities. Together we want to make a positive spiritual and eternal impact on lives of those who live around the church and around our homes. It’s wonderful seeing God’s people rising to the call, we’d love to have you as part of this great journey too!
Favourite verse: May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him – Romans 15:13
It is my desire that people see Christ living in me all the days of my life. My wife Kathy and I met here at Bay Park in 1981, were married here in 1983 and I have been working with students and their families since 1987. In 1996 I came on staff as part-time youth director and then in 1999 came on full-time staff. Over the next number of years I was able to finish my education at Tyndale and graduate with a Bachelors of Religious Education degree. In 2014 I moved from being the Pastor of Youth & Family to Church Family Life Pastor where I minister to families of all different shapes, sizes and ages. Kathy and I have 2 grown children and have 3 (soon to be 4) wonderful grandchildren. It is my privilege to be a part of the ministry that God is doing through His people here at Bay Park and in this community.
“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” – Galatians 2:20
My role at Bay Park is to love students. This involves overseeing our youth ministry program as well as equipping and empowering gifted volunteer leaders from our congregation. This also involves laughing, talking, praying and belching with our church’s next generation.
I’m from the distant, fantastical land of Musquodoboit. Which is actually just a hard-to-pronounce village in Nova Scotia.
I landed in Kingston July of 2014 with all my belongings packed into three suitcases, fresh bait out of college. At first I joined the Bay Park family as a youth ministry intern and in May 2016 transitioned into being Pastor of Student Ministries.
Prior to Bay Park I flexed my ministry muscles in these roles: as a Program Director, counsellor, and barf-cleaner extraordinaire at summer camps in Nova Scotia and Bermuda; as a one year pastoral intern in the Tex-Mex border city coincidentally named “Pharr”; and, as an amateur preacher in small-town churches in the Maritimes.
As a side project I’m partnering with Geneva House, a Queen’s University campus ministry, to create a missional community house in downtown Kingston. I’m also a Master of Divinity student at Tyndale Seminary in Toronto.
For fun I enjoy writing, running, ungracefully longboarding, and taking in awesome SciFi.
I grew up in a very small town, north of Muskoka, where the moose walked though our garden, the bears sat on the back step, and the wolves yipped as they passed by.
Growing up in the north, I loved being outside: skating on the lake, driving heavy equipment, waterskiing, and long snowmobile trips through the bush.
At a young age, and with child like faith, I accepted Jesus as my Saviour, and have been growing in that decision ever since. While in elementary school, I was baptized in a local lake. After high school, I went to Word of Life, a Bible School in upstate New York. For two years there I studied God’s word, while also being involved in large scale, professional music theatre productions. This was a period of inward spiritual growth, and outward application.
After my time at Word of Life, I came back to Canada and completed a Bachelor of Music (2015) and Bachelor of Education (2016), both at Queen’s University.
I am so thankful for the opportunity to use my passions and education to serve at Bay Park.
Favorite verse: Psalm 16:11
You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
